At this point one enters the paradise
of the Archipelago of La Maddalena, formed by 23 small and large islands, which is an
irresistible attraction for those who love the sea. This enchanting place with its air perfumed by
the Macchia Mediterranea (the characteristic Mediterranean shrub), is famous for its
transparent sea and beautiful sandy beaches.
There are famous names and places
associated with this area: Caprera where there is the house and the Museum of Giuseppe
Garibaldi, the so called "the hero of the two Worlds;

and the "capital" of the Archipelago which has a fine naval museum that contains the whole
cargo of a Roman ship which sank in the sea off the nearby island of Spargi;

Budelli where there is the famous
"Spiaggia Rosa" a pink coloured beach formed by tiny pieces of coral where many successful
films have been shot and Razzoli and Santa Maria two islands separated by the "Passo degli
Asinelli" a causeway whose name derives from the fact that many years ago donkeys were the
only way to carry provisions to the lighthouse keepers on Razzoli.
